The Satellite Building caters solely for international arrivals and departures. KLIA is located at the top of the southern corridor of Peninsular Malaysia, bordering the states of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. A good network of highways and expressways link KLIA to the rest of peninsular Malaysia. From Kuala Lumpur, the primary access is through the North-South Central Link Expressway (ELITE). A second access is via the North-South Highway (PLUS) eastern route, which links the southern towns like Seremban and Malacca to the airport via the Nilai Interchange. Traveling time by car from Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya is approximately one hour while from Shah Alam it takes just 45 minutes. Other modes of public transportation to and from KLIA are via express buses, taxis, limousines and the Express Rail Link.

The new Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT-KLIA) with capacity of 10 million passengers per annum was opened in March 2006.

The Express Rail Link provides the latest means of transportation to KLIA from the city centre. The KLIA Express and the KLIA Transit links KLIA to Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral - City Air Terminal) and vice-versa. At the City Air Terminal departing passengers have the option of checking-in their luggage, receive their boarding passes and proceed to board the train for KLIA. Immigration clearance will be completed at the airport. Travel time between KL Sentral to KLIA is 28 minutes on the KLIA Express and 37 minutes on the KLIA Transit
